Bel and the Dragon, book of
An addition (ch. 14) found in the Greek OT to the book of Daniel; probably written in the 2nd cent. BCE, consisting of menacing satires against idolatry in the form of legends about the survival powers of Daniel [[➝ Daniel, book of]] in the Babylonian era. The piece is regarded as a deuterocanonical part of the book of Daniel in Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox editions of the Bible, but put into the Apocrypha in Protestant versions.
